Frequently asked questions

What is naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a holistic approach to health that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of your health concerns, rather than just managing symptoms. It combines modern scientific evidence with traditional natural therapies—including herbal medicine, nutritional interventions, and lifestyle recommendations—to support the body’s innate ability to heal.

What can I expect in my appointment?

In your naturopathy or nutrition consultation, you can expect a personalised, in-depth assessment of your health—including your medical history, diet, lifestyle, and current symptoms. Together, we'll identify the root cause of your concerns and create a tailored treatment plan using evidence-based natural therapies such as dietary changes, herbal medicine, nutritional supplementation, and lifestyle support. Both naturopathy and nutrition consults cover the same depth of care, with the key difference being that naturopathy may also include herbal medicine as part of your treatment.

How many appointments will I need?

The number of appointments needed will depend on your individual health concerns and treatment goals. For most people, an initial consultation is followed by a follow-up appointment within a few weeks to track progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed. Some individuals will require ongoing support based on their specific health needs, while others may find that a few sessions are enough to address their concerns. Te Moana will work with you to determine the right treatment schedule tailored to your needs.

Clinical Nutritionist vs. Nutritionist – What's the difference?

A Clinical Nutritionist has formal training (BHSc) in health science and evidence-based nutrition, and is qualified to support chronic health conditions holistically through personalised nutrition and lifestyle interventions. In contrast, the term Nutritionist is not regulated in Australia, meaning anyone can use the title, and qualifications can vary widely. Clinical Nutritionists often work in clinical settings, while Nutritionists may focus more on general wellness or public health.

Can I claim my consultation on private health insurance?

Private health insurance rebates are available for nutrition consultations with the various health funds (please check with your provider). The government has just announced that naturopathy consultations will soon also be eligible for private health insurance rebates.

Do you offer in-person consultations?

At this stage, I offer online consultations only. This allows me to support clients regardless of location, and I currently work with clients across Australia and New Zealand, including (but not limited to) Brisbane, Melbourne, Geelong, Sydney, Wellington, Kapiti, Mt Maunganui, and Auckland.

I welcome bookings from clients worldwide, with the exception of those based in the USA and Canada, due to regulatory requirements.

Online consultations are just as thorough and personalised as in-person appointments and are conducted via video call. Prescriptions and treatment plans are provided electronically, with practitioner-only products able to be ordered online and delivered directly to you.
